January 30, 2008 10:39:17I have some web hosting questions, but first let me explain what Im looking to do. Id like to offer free no ads hosting to smaller sites in exchange for a text link in the footer of the site and do want to offer subdomain hosting, only top level domain hosting. I have no experience as a web host. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Webhosting advice (Please read)
August 31, 2008 03:49:20I am in dire need of a a special type of web server.
You see, I am programming a a multiplayer game (and pretty far along too), and it works fine on my local apache server.
But I need an online server to test the game and allow others to login. I cant buy just any old web server for this reason: I need to be able to execute a java .class file so my java server can run.

Which groupware for VPS?
January 30, 2008 17:31:26Im looking into various groupware solutions that can fit on my VPS, heres the most prominent candidates Ive come up with so far, a modern GUI is important as well are features.
Mail, calendar, contact list, file storage is a must. Enterpise grade is a bonus, but not a requirement.
- Zimbra, is a bit too heavy for my VPS, even with 1GB ram
- Horde with DIMP, tough not stable release yet

Why do web hosts have names of predators?
July 31, 2008 02:03:54In my search for a good web host, I noticed that many of them have names of predators. For example: HostMonster, HostGator, HawkHost, HostHyena, etc. etc.
I am curious: whats so special about web hosting that it makes their owners give names like this?
