Why do web hosts have names of predators? July 31, 2008 02:03:54In my search for a good web host, I noticed that many of them have names of predators. For example: HostMonster, HostGator, HawkHost, HostHyena, etc. etc.
I am curious: whats so special about web hosting that it makes their owners give names like this?
Thanks,
George
P.S. I think I am zeroing in on HostHawk. Looks inexpensive for my modest initial needs. Any comments/experience with it? - [Read more] |
Good Software for Video Chat Rooms July 31, 2008 01:42:38Ive been looking up, down and sideways for a good package that lets you do host-based video chat rooms. Similar in concept to Stickam or Justin.tv where a user creates a "room" and he/she is the host of that room and others can join in and chat and talk any one know of such a thing? - [Read more] |
VPS with good bandwidth? July 31, 2008 01:32:54I need a VPS with a good amount of bandwidth. Something like 10mbps (or faster) with no cap or a high cap. I would prefer something debian-based, but other distros like CentOS would be fine. I dont need a ton of space. I think I can get by with <256MB RAM, 128MB might be enough.
I dont need a control panel or a ton of IPs or anything. Im low on budget too. - [Read more] |

Earthquake July 30, 2008 23:38:17We had a moderate earthquake here in Los Angeles yesterday, and as we were standing in the parking lot waiting for the building to collapse in an aftershock, no one could make a call on their cell phones!
Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile - you name the provider, no one in that parking lot could place a call.
So Im wondering if I should sue these phone companies for mad overselling? Obviously they are just small timers who dont know how to adequately provide... - [ Read more] |

I am looking for a small hosting package but I am trying to stay in a small price range with school starting up soon.

Hostgator not what they use to be? July 30, 2008 20:31:17Im curious if others have experienced this problem.
I have one of my accounts with Hostgator (shared hosting), its been there for several years. Ive always been a fan of HG and still am, but im curious, as they have seen large growth over the last year or two, has anyone else noticed that theyre not as... "snappy" as they use to be?
From their packages/pricing, it seems they do a bit of overselling, though certainly not as bad as many. Dont get me... - [ Read more] |
