LOS ANGELES -- The U.S. Air Force plans to launch an experimental aircraft Thursday that could potentially reach speeds of 4,000 mph over the Pacific Ocean in a test flight that could give the Pentagon a new way to deliver a military strike anywhere around the globe within minutes.

LAYTON — The Layton City Fire Department continues to take a proactive stance to educate students at elementary schools about fire danger.

In 2011 the fire department is adding to its program an activity booklet that students can work on with their parents, in hopes of helping prevent a child-related fatality such as the recent mobile-home fire in Clearfield that killed a 5-year-old girl.

OGDEN — Nearly 200 Special Olympic athletes will compete in the Winter Games this Saturday at Powder Mountain and North Fork park.

Athletes can compete in four events: alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. at both locations.
