Links Sort by: Date | Hits | Alphabetical2nd Amendment extension likely: McDonald v. Chicago March 3, 2010 10:25:59The Supreme Court on Tuesday seemed poised to require state and local governments to obey the Second Amendment guarantee of a personal right to a gun, but with perhaps considerable authority to regulate that right. A few thoughts on the McDonald argument March 3, 2010 10:24:27Based on a quick read of the oral argument transcript, a few things stood out:
1. The Privileges or Immunities arguments never really got off the ground. None of the Justices seemed in favor of that approach, at least based on the questions. (Justice Thomas, as is his custom, asked no questions.) Only about 10-12 minutes of the questioning even concerned the P or I route, and the questioning seemed mostly focused on trying to understand the nature of the claim. For my VC co bloggers and... - [Read more] |

Arizona: Constitutional protection for hunting moves forward February 25, 2010 09:57:41State lawmakers are moving to constitutionally protect the right to hunt and fish, a move backers admit is designed to undermine future voter efforts to restrict how that can be done.
On a 6 1 vote Wednesday, the House Committee on Military Affairs and Public Safety approved language that, if adopted by voters in November, would prohibit any law or regulation "that unreasonably restricts hunting, fishing and harvesting wildlife or the use of traditional means and methods." It also would... - [Read more] |

Barr: Anti-gun lunacy continues February 12, 2010 09:30:13We ought to be used to the stories by now -- "Student suspended for toy gun"; "Boy Scout tool nets student suspension"; "Tweety Bird key chain cause for expulsion." Still, when we read of a fourth grade student being hauled into a school prinicipals office because his LEGO policeman figure is carrying a two inch long plastic rifle, it is hard to resist the urge to pull at ones hair in reaction to the sheer idiocacy of the adults who do such things. This latest example of a grown up appearing... - [Read more] |
