Adopting out dogs can be dangerous July 20, 2008 05:22:00Adopting out dogs can be dangerous, if precautionary guidelines are not followed. How often do you invite complete strangers into your home? For many of us, the answer is never. Yet, when we are faced with finding a new home for a dog, this rule usually flies out the window. I was just reading in the news about a man that was assaulted in his own home, for the purpose of stealing a Yorkshire Terrier pup last month. He advertised the dog in the paper for sale, and was contacted by a man... - [Read more] |

Many have evacuated up towards shreveport, or further to texas, alabama, tennessee, Georgia or wherever they can go to be safe. After the devestation of Katrina, it seems we are somewhat more prepared and organized this time. Animal Welfare Groups Hurricane Gustav September 2, 2008 04:53:00Hurricane Gustav preparations have taken animals into greater consideration than we had in Katrina. Back in 2005 when hurricane Katrina hit, up to 1900 people lost their life. Most likey the animal fatality rate was many times that. There was a huge loss of life, both human and animal. At that time, officials helping people to evacuate, refused to allow people to bring their pets. This policy was responsible for the unnecessary death of many animals. It is estimated that 44% of the... - [Read more] |

Are Flea and Tick Killers Dangerous? August 14, 2008 03:02:00More than a billion dollars are spent in the US every year on flea and tick products. The summertime is especially difficult when dealing with fleas and ticks, and many of us buy these products because we feel we are doing the right thing. On this very blog, I have mentioned Advantix flea and tick killer for dogs, and to say how effective it has been in killing ticks. I have recently come to realize that many of these products have the potential to pose a serious health danger. Could it... - [Read more] |

Beneficial Nematodes Keep Fleas Away From Your Dog August 22, 2008 07:44:00Certain pesticides that you use in your yard, can be hazardous to your dog. That is why I wanted to speak briefly about the use of beneficial nematodes, a microscopic bug that will eat any fleas you may have lurking outdoors.
