Atlanta, Georgia (CaymanMama.com) — Five years ago on a cold November night, Kelli Phillips along with her husband was traveling from Norman, Oklahoma to the Kansas City in Missouri to see their favorite Sooners playing at the Big 12 against Kansas. While checking their hotel, they were all excited about the game. However, then joy was short lived for Phillips in the hotel. “When we got to the hotel that night, I turned my cell phone on, and I had four or five messages from my mother wanting to know what day it was and if it was morning or nighttime.”

Phillips called his bother Brad Burns and found Nancy Bourns stumbling and confused with slurry speech. Burns and Phillips took Nancy where she was diagnosed for Alzheimer’s disease. During all this rime Phillips felt awkward as “Something in my gut told me it wasn’t right” and they transported Bourns to The University of Oklahoma to a geriatrician for a second opinion. Phillips said that “She sat down with us and said, ‘I don’t believe your mother has Alzheimer’s or Pick’s disease. I believe she’s overmedicated.” Phillips and his brother felt as if they knew what was wrong with their mother. In the USA, more than 38 million people suffer from drug overdose or complications.
