Title:Crissic - Inexperienced and Careless Web Host - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=711611&goto=newpost
Description:
I feel I need to warn others about Crissic. Ive had a VPS with them for just over a month. After about 20 days, I got the following email:

Quote:

Dear Valued VPS Clients,

I am happy to announce that after the recent success with our first node, bravo(69.162.67.2), with the Infomart Datacenter in Dallas, TX we have now decided it to be in the best interests of our clients to move you to that datacenter.

Starting Friday July 25th, 2008 our technicians will begin moving the clients located on the “Charlie” (67.215.230.66 ) VPS node to the Infomart Datacenter. Your VPS will remain live as long as possible, until we open a ticket with you giving you your new set of IPs.

What are the benefits?

The Infomart Datacenter is located in Dallas, TX which is central to all of the United States, meaning there will be better connectivity to not only all of the states, but to 99% of the outlying countries.

The hardware we will be switching to is top of the line, and even newer than our current configurations. The new configurations allow for better speeds, less IO wait meaning faster loads, and overall, better performance.

What are the negatives?

The downside to such a massive move is it will require a huge number of man hours to orchestrate the move of 50 VPS clients to the two new nodes, as well as issuing new IPs to the clients. With the new IPs, there is expected to be up to 48 hours of downtime to the client’s URL due to DNS Propagation. A typical DNS propagation can be anywhere from a matter of minutes, to 48 hours.

We understand that this may cause some minor inconvenience during the transitioning process. We acknowledge this, and are willing to give 25% off of your next generated invoice. This is not applied to invoices that are due within the next 10 days, but the credit will be issued, upon request, to next month’s invoice.

The official dates for moving clients:

Charlie(67.215.230.66 ): Friday July 25th, 2008
Alpha(67.215.235.202): To be Announced

New orders placed within the last 2-3 days are already located on the new server, BRAVO, which is located at the Infomart datacenter. Clients who requested to be moved to the new datacenter are already on the new node. Clients on the BRAVO node will not experience any downtime due to the server migration of alpha and Charlie.

More information will be given as we prepare for the migration(s), and are migrating servers. Upon completion of each VPS migration, you will receive an email stating a new ticket was opened on your behalf with a copy of your new IPs.

During the migration period, HyperVM will be inaccessible while we move your VPS. Your VPS, however, should remain live and active until you are issued new IPs.

If you require further information, have questions or comments, or need clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hes allowing 2 days for me to get a hold of all my clients, have them change their DNS, and force a certain amount of downtime on each and every client.

So, I complain and he agrees to create a VPS on the new system where I can manually transfer clients between then and August 3rd. Inconvenient, but better than down time for my customers.

This morning, I had an appointment with a client to transfer their data and update their DNS. I go to connect to the server, its down. I email Crissic asking why my VPS is inaccessible, and, well, heres the thread:

Quote:

Hello *****,

I am looking through our logs and it appears that your system was miss-placed on charlie, which was pulled offline yesterday by the datacenter. We have contacted the datacenter, and they have stated that the hard drive has already been reformatted, and no data can be recovered for this specific VPS.

I am terribly sorry about the mixup, and can give you a 25% discount off of your next invoice with Crissic Solutions.

If there is anything else I can do for you, please do let me know.

My response:
Quote:

You have absolutely no concept of the importance of data and uptime at Crissic. You misplaced my VPS? Thats a load of crap. And 25% of my next invoice for the "mixup"? For completely losing my data? Are you kidding me? You blow this off like you forgot something minor...this is peoples work that you destroyed! I already have a 25% discount on the next invoice because of the inconvenience of the server move. So thats great news, I get $15 off, and it just cost me all my data. Just 5 days ago, you flat out told me that I had until August 3 to move my data off the server, and you canceled the server to save yourself few bucks.
Crissic:
Quote:

****,

I did not cancel the server "for a few extra bucks" - your server was meant to have been moved to "alpha" which is live until August 7th, but it looks as if that never happened. I am truly sorry for the data lost, and we had no intentions of causing you any damage what so ever.

And my final response:
Quote:

The point is, you canceled the server prematurely, without taking adequate time to determine if it was ready to be pulled offline, and you dont even take responsibility for your actions. You just sit there, safe behind your keyboard and say things like "sorry for the mixup". Its not uncommon for hosts to leave servers online in parallel for months, where you give a few days warning and pull it offline. Its unprofessional, and just exemplifies your inexperience and carelessness as a start up web host.
Im not saying this will happen to you. But it did happen to me, and its infuriating how unprofessional this "company" is operated.
