Senate demands complete investigation of burying women alive in Baluchistan

Islamabad: Controversy sparked in the senate yesterday on the incident of burying women alive in the province of Balochistan. Senator Sardar Israrullah Zehri defended the incident burying 3 teenaged girls an 2 women alive on the pretext that it is their tribal custom.

The incident happened in a tribal village of Jafarabad. The crime committed by these teenaged girls was that they wanted to marry of their own will. These women were first shot and buried while they were still alive. A Pakistan Peoples Party minister and some other influential people are involved in this case. No arrests have yet been made. The leader of the house assured that a complete report will be presented to the Senate by Monday.

Gilani seeks support for Zardari as the President of the country

Karachi: While speaking at the dinner hosted by the Sindh Chief Minister, here in Karachi, the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani urged that for the health of democracy it is necessary that the PM and the President must be from the same party, at least for one full term. He is seeking support for Mr. Zardari for the Presidential election that are being held on Sept. 06, 2008

Security forces kill 22 Taliban in Swat

Islamabad: Military air strikes killed 20 militants and two commanders in Swat valley yesterday. The military spokesman said that the command center of the militants have been destroyed and the place where they stored arms and ammunition have also been demolished.

Zardari’s withdrawal from Presidential race not possible - Sherry Rehman

Islamabad (Geo News): While speaking to the journalist the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman said that the news of Mr. Zardari’s withdrawal from Presidential race is a ‘rumor’. The party has all the votes it needs to bring the co-chairman of the PPP to the seat of the President. She said that Pakistan Peoples Party has clear majority. Being the major political party the party has right of Presidentship.

Karachi Stock Exchange trading below par

Karachi: A dull trading session was witnessed on Friday at the Karachi Stock Exchange. In spite of high corporate announcements that mood of the investors remained somber resulting in just 24 million share changing hands. Modest rise of 4.48 points was witnessed that brought the KSE-100 index to 9,208.26 points.
