General Petraeus is said to be preparing to tell Congress that we need to reduce this troop "surge." I hope these rumors are true. Iraq is a mess and I think it does not matter when we leave. If we stay for another 10 years and sacrifice 10,000 of our best and brightest, it will still explode into chaos. Rumsfeld ignored his generals and blew any chance we had at a "successful" outcome. Now we need to save face and our lives. You cannot tell people who have lived a certain way since the beginning of time that they suddenly need to accept freedom. The fact that they went on vacation for a few weeks because it got too hot signaled their true intent. Our troops are dying and we spend billions each day to help them, and they take a break. The caveman mentality is too deeply etched in the Iraqi psyche.
