The Ancient Athenians laid the foundation for our democratic, free, and legal society. Without these ancestors, we would not be in any position to enjoy our free lives in America. But today, we are forgetting where we have come from. Forgetting these essential works and ideas which ground our existence leads to disaster, as we are beginning to see. Depriving one American citizen of the due process of law, erodes what we stand for. If we strip away one mans freedom and justice, we betray our past and ourselves. We need to take heart and have the strength to follow the right path, no matter what the cost is. Debate, appeal, and law are what make us free people. I would defend these with my life, as hope all Americans would. The Homeric statement from Iliad 6 is fitting here, aien aristeuein, always to prosper. Boston Colleges motto "ever to excel" is another fitting translation for this ideal. To me, this is a calling to a moral highground, which cannot be undermined or destroyed. | | Category: | Web 2.0: Blogging: Political Blog | | Link Owner: | | | Date Added: | August 25, 2007 05:03:00 AM | | Number Hits: | 0 | | |
