She has an enormous amount of athletic ability and would excel as either an English or a Western horse, but so far shes only been ridden Western. Personally, I think shes more of a sporthorse prospect, but shes got tons of speed and agility and would also be a great barrels prospect. Excellent ground manners -- she stands tied, cross-ties, longes in an arena or a round pen, ground drives, loads right up, and stands very well for farrier and vet work. Shes been worked under saddle at the walk, trot, AND canter. Shes completely familiar and comfortable with the box stall and turnout routine, or does just as fine with 24/7 turnout with shelter. VERY affectionate girl -- LOVES attention and being worked with! She was born bay, but is slowly roaning to grey and will eventually be a flea-bitten grey like her dam. She will mature to around 16 hands. Moonguards sire was a 15.3 grandson of Robert Redford (AQHA Champion with 169 halter points) and Go Moon Go (SI-100, 16 Halter Points, Performance Points in HUS). Her dam is a 16.2 TB daughter of Hawkins Special (Sire of 232 winners,6,934,353. 13 Stakes Winners including TAYLORS SPECIAL(21 wins,1,065,805,G1-Blue Grass Stakes, Louisiana Derby), FORKINTHEROAD(9 wins,353,503, Chaucer Cup Handicap(L), SPECIAL TEST(12 wins,207,206, Remington Park Oaks(L)etc.)SPECIAL VICTORY(161,589, Woodside Handicap(L)etc). Sire of the dams of WHEATLY SPECIAL(379,354), ELEGANCE(310,198), BIOLAGE(294,983),etc. Euthanized March 1996, at Lazy E Ranch, Okla.), out of a granddaughter of Bimelech and Warfare, with two lines to La Troienne (the best broodmare in U.S. Thoroughbred history). So, Moonguard is a VERY well bred girl, with a tail female line to La Troienne (TB family 1-x) in her 6th generation. I have tons of photos of her from the time she was a newborn foal.
